Health and Safety/Facilities Officer

We are looking for an experienced Health and Safety Officer to join our team at Roccia for the Warehouse/Distribution Centre and 2 retail Showroom sites. There are also 2 rental properties requiring oversight and potentially others in the pipeline which will fall into the remit of this role. The successful candidate will have a ‘can-do’, hands on attitude and the ability to implement, monitor and ensure all Health & Safety requirements within the workforce are being carried out on a consistent basis.

  • To provide a first-class, fully compliant Health & Safety environment at all sites.
  • Draw up a programme of required work for all areas.
  • Source and instigate agreed remedial work required to ensure compliance.
  • Be the key person in the delivery of the Health, Safety and Environmental strategies.
  • Ensure all standards meet legislation and advise on and share best practice.
  • Ensure all sites achieve or surpass the targets set by Roccia, driving standards from the outset to ensure accidents, incidents and lost time injuries are avoided.
  • Drive a positive and proactive safety culture throughout all levels to promote operational excellence in safety behaviours.
  • Ensure that all hazards, near misses, accidents and incidents are recorded correctly and where necessary, escalated within a timely manner.
  • Fully support internal and external audit processes.
  • Develop and co-ordinate all site Health, Safety and Environmental activities including committees, training, and communications to ensure sites remain compliant.
  • Work with Line Managers to ensure necessary day to day checks are carried out and recorded.
  • Ensure all mandatory training is carried out and recorded.
  • Develop appropriate HSE knowledge and expertise within the team.
  • Undertake risk assessments as required and ensure that existing risk assessments are reviewed & linked to the relevant safe systems of work.
  • Support accident investigation and reporting ensuring accurate root causes are identified with adequate corrective actions implemented to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Ensure that all contractors working on sites are “approved”, have been vetted and have submitted the correct up to date documentation.
  • Be pro-active in decision making based on analysis, experience, judgement and intuition but recognise when to escalate.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of HSE related plans across sites utilising the Group documents and strategies.
  • Seek Continuous Improvement on all aspects regarding HSE across the contract.
  • Proactively be involved in ensuring individual staff are aware of the H&S responsibilities within their remit.
  • Work with all Line Managers and Directors to achieve planned targets and deadlines and provide regular feedback and coaching where required.
  • To assist in the introduction of digital checking and reporting.
  • To act as Facilities Officer for the Showrooms and Warehouses and ensure all areas are consistently kept at a high standard. This would include buying and monitoring of all consumables for the workplace.
  • Corporate membership of IOSH required.
  • Perform continuous updates of the Health & Safety manual including Asbestos Policy & Register

About You

  • Currently hold relevant Health and Safety qualification such as NEBOSH.
  • At least 2-3 years’ proven experience of HSE in an operational area, preferably in a warehousing operation.
  • Experience of managing Facilities and have some responsibility for call outs.
  • Proactive, effective, and motivated team player who can demonstrate a strong capability of engaging with the workforce and be able to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with difficult situations to help and ensure staff understand the importance of H&S throughout the organisation.
  • Works well under pressure in tight deadline situations, displaying exceptional organisational skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Able to demonstrate a keen interest in continually improving our Health, Safety and Environment performance.
  • Must hold a current valid UK driving license as travel will be required between all sites.

Salary: £38,000-£45,000 (depending on experience)
