Splashback Tiles at ROCCIA

A kitchen splashback is a chance to bring colour, pattern or texture into a defined part of the room while protecting the wall behind your worktop, sink or hob. Whether you want a subtle finish that complements the wider kitchen or a more expressive design that draws the eye, the right splashback tile can add a distinctive finishing detail.

Make a Feature of the Splashback

Because a splashback covers a relatively contained area, it can be a good place to introduce a stronger design. Patterned tiles can bring rhythm and character, while richer colours create contrast against neutral cabinetry and worktops. The Romana Blue Wall Tile 32 x 60cm, for example, brings colour and a decorative mosaic effect to the wall, making the splashback a more considered part of the kitchen scheme.

Connect Your Worktops & Cabinetry

The splashback sits between some of the kitchen’s most prominent surfaces, so consider how your tiles will work with the rest of the room. You could pick out a tone from the worktop, complement the colour of your cabinetry, or introduce a contrasting shade for greater definition. Neutral tiles can create a quieter backdrop, while colour and pattern give the splashback more visual presence.

Choose a Format That Suits Your Kitchen

The size and shape of your tiles can change the character of the finished splashback. Smaller formats create more visible grout lines and can introduce rhythm and detail, while larger tiles offer a cleaner, more continuous appearance. Subway tiles are particularly versatile, with different laying patterns allowing the same format to create very different effects. The Iron Ore Subway Tile 7.5 x 30cm brings a rustic, textured character to the wall, working particularly well where you want the splashback to feel more tactile and informal.

Add Texture, Colour or Contrast

A splashback does not need to match the rest of the kitchen exactly. Using a different finish or tone can give the room more depth, particularly where cabinetry and worktops are relatively simple. A textured or decorative tile can catch the light, while deeper shades can create contrast against lighter kitchens. The Bisaldo Cream Subway Tile 10 x 20cm brings a warm cream tone and classic subway format to the wall, creating a versatile finish that works comfortably with a range of kitchen schemes.

Finish the Wider Kitchen Scheme

Splashback tiles can work as a defined feature behind a hob or sink, or form part of a more continuous wall scheme. If you want to carry the same look across a larger area, explore our Kitchen Wall Tiles for designs suited to wider wall coverage.

FAQs

What tiles are best for a kitchen splashback?

The best choice depends on the look you want to create and where the splashback will be installed. Patterned, colourful and textured tiles can all work particularly well in a defined splashback area, while simpler designs can create a quieter backdrop.

Can I use porcelain tiles for a kitchen splashback?

Yes. Suitable porcelain tiles can be used for splashbacks, offering a wide choice of colours, patterns, textures and formats. Check the individual product specifications to confirm suitability for your intended application.

What is the difference between kitchen wall tiles and splashback tiles?

Kitchen wall tiles can be used across larger areas of the kitchen to create a cohesive wall finish, while splashback tiles are typically used in a more defined area behind a worktop, sink, or hob. A splashback gives you the opportunity to introduce a concentrated area of colour, pattern or texture.

Should splashback tiles match kitchen wall tiles?

Not necessarily. Using the same tile can create continuity, while a contrasting or complementary tile can make the splashback more of a focal point. The right choice depends on how much visual impact you want the splashback to have.

Can splashback tiles be used behind a hob?

Tiles can be suitable for use behind a hob, but requirements can vary depending on the tile, hob type, and installation. Always check the manufacturer's guidance before installation.

How high should a kitchen splashback be?

There is no single required height. A splashback can cover a small area immediately behind a worktop or extend higher behind a hob or sink, depending on the kitchen design and level of protection required.
