How to Create A Summer-Inspired Interior Design

At last – the heat of summer has finally arrived! After a cold, wet start to the year we can now embrace all the season has to offer, whether that involves enjoying time in our outdoor spaces or taking a break from the sun to cool off inside the home.

Here at Roccia, we love all of the vibrant design aspects that come with a brighter season, and after some deliberation, we’ve come to the conclusion that it’s our natural stone effect tiles that are the must have of Summer 2018.

These stylish tiles pip the post when it comes to investing in décor that will see you through various seasons, but really adds that je ne sais quoi.

Some Like it Hot

As the mercury creeps up outside, it’s easy to raise the temperature inside the home by taking inspiration from one of the hottest design features of the year: bold colours.

Strong, earthy shades of indigo, burnt orange and emerald green will be everywhere, from walls to furniture and soft furnishings, and our stunning Re-Works collection in black or grey will really make these vivid colours ‘pop’. Add some hand-crafted textiles and black and white tribal patterns and you will truly be rocking the hottest of exotic looks this year.

If you prefer a more traditional approach with a fashionable twist then strong colours can be incorporated with dark furniture – set to make a comeback this year – and the perfect way to achieve this retro-glam look is by finishing it off with one of the very latest in flooring trends, known as ‘rugging’.

This is where patterned tiles are surrounded by plainer ones to create a rug effect and is also a great way of creating different zones in an open-plan space. Try a mix of our black and white Marquina ceramic floor tiles to create the ‘rug’ and contrast the geometric design with white tiles from our Stone Cut range for a look that manages to achieve both a retro and contemporary style at the same time.

For a more understated result, you can still embrace the bold colour trend and dark furniture by using our Slaty tiles, with their natural variations adding an authenticity and warmth to a more rustic yet contemporary feel.

Take it Outside

With property space at a premium and set to remain that way, it’s no surprise that the theme of outdoor living will continue. We are keener than ever to transform our outdoor spaces into an extension of the home and summer is the perfect time to do this.

The key to achieving this successfully is by using the same flooring material inside as outside. It is also imperative to ensure the flooring is at the same height to create a seamless transition between the inside and outside spaces.

A perfect solution is our iTravertino collection that comes in a range of colours to suit your taste and décor. The oversized format will have the added benefit of creating the appearance of greater space – our white iTravertino tiles are particularly effective at this – so even the smallest of areas will seem much larger.

British weather being what it is, it is understandable that almost half of British people  – 44% according to a recent poll by YouGov – state that their favourite season of them all is the summer and there’s no better place to enjoy it than in the garden.

In addition to providing a nod to the current trend for a natural, industrial theme, our Cardoso tiles are available to buy in a variety of colours, with anthracite being particularly effective in providing the perfect foil for making the flowers and foliage in your garden stand out.

This stone-effect porcelain stoneware is soft to the touch, so is ideal for enjoying the garden in bare feet on a warm summer’s day. It will look equally amazing in the glow of a firepit when the sun goes down.

Nordic Cool

For days when the heat is too much, a nice cool room can be the perfect retreat. Luckily, the penchant for a Scandinavian-inspired aesthetic continues to be very much en vogue this year.

With white-painted wooden furniture and fittings and a more tonal colour palette, this is an ideal scheme for escaping the blazing sun’s rays. By hanging long white flowing gauze curtains, and complementing with our beige Cardoso tiles, you can create a cool and serene haven.

However you plan to spend your summer, make your home the perfect place to be, whatever the weather, and have a look at how our natural stone effect tiles can help – or visit our main website.
